Norris commends ‘crazy’ new F1 circuit

Lando Norris has praised Saudi Arabia’s new Formula 1 track for the “crazy” ideas that have been unveiled.

Earlier this month, the latest plans for the new F1 venue in Qiddiya City were made public ahead of the expected switch to the location in the coming years.

F1 has raced around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit since the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021.

The new Qiddiya venue is set to feature a 20-storey high first corner, called ‘The Blade’, that wraps around a music venue and rises to a height of 108 metres.

“I’ve seen the video and the preview, and it looks pretty crazy,” Norris told media including RacingNews365.

“It’s what Saudi do, so full respect to them for coming up with some crazy things and trying to make it as cool as what it looks.”

Norris insists ‘crazy’ track ‘good for everyone’

The new Qiddya track is part of a major project aiming to boost Saudi Arabia’s tourist income.

Norris has complimented the plan to push more extreme ideas to the forefront of F1.

“You have a lot of places which are nowhere near as lively and as fun,” Norris added.

“If you want people to be attracted to the sport in general, you don’t want it just to be a track in the middle of nowhere that no one goes to.

“You want things that happen in the evening and during the afternoons with shows.

“You want it to be a big event, not just certain race times that we’re on track and then everyone goes home and is bored.

“Compliments to them for coming up with crazy stuff, because I think it’s certainly a good thing for everyone.”
