Anthony Joshua helps his new F1 team with pitstop practice at United States Grand Prix

Anthony Joshua is back in a Formula 1 paddock, this time as a team investor.

The former heavyweight world champion was seen spending time with Max Verstappen at his home Grand Prix in Zandvoort back in August, but has now swapped the Red Bull motor home for Alpine’s.

Joshua was announced as an investor in Otro Capital ahead of the United States Grand Prix, the company that was part of a group who bought a 24 per cent stake in French F1 team Alpine.

Getting stuck in ahead of the race, he was seen helping push the A523 into its pit box so mechanics got practice changing tyres.

Joining a star-studded list of investors, Joshua signed up with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kansas City Chiefs duo Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Also included was four-time major winner Rory McIlroy, who has been present in Austin for the weekend’s race.

He’ll now undoubtedly be spending time with fellow investor Joshua, as Alpine line up with Pierre Gasly in seventh and Esteban Ocon in eighth for Sunday’s feature race.

McIlroy already spent some time at the Circuit of the Americas discussing his investment in Alpine, but suggested it may not stop there.

The Northern Irishman is a Manchester United fan, and said he’s certainly taken an interest in the club’s current ownership saga.

“I would love to be able to own a tiny percentage of the club I grew up cheering on as a boy,” the Ryder Cup winner told Sky.

“I would have loved to have taken 0.00001 per cent of Manchester United when Jim Ratcliffe took 25 per cent. And if another opportunity comes my way I will look at it. But it is not something that has come across our table as of yet.

“There is Tom Brady at Birmingham and there are a few golfers – Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas – who invested with the 49ers Group, and they own a tiny slice of Leeds. They asked me if I wanted to come on board, and I said as a Man United fan I cannot go anywhere near that!

“Sir Jim has got a great track record and everybody that does support United should be excited by the possibilities if they give him full sporting authority and decisions for the club. As a fan I am excited.”
